Sunday Igboho Released From Benin Republic Detention

Yoruba Nation agitator, Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as has been released from detention in Cotonou, Benin Republic.

His release was contained in a statement issued by Ilana Omo Oodua’s spokesperson, Mr. Maxwell Adeleye.

The statement was titled: “Yoruba Nation Activist, Sunday Adeyemo Ighoho Released to Yoruba Leader, Banji Akintoye, French Language Expert, Adeniran by the Benin Republic Government.”

The statement said he was released by the Benin Republic Government on Monday.

The statement said the activist was released on Monday to a Yoruba leader and leader of the Umbrella body of Yoruba Self-determination Groups, Ilana Omo Oodua Worldwide, Professor Banji Akintoye and a French Language Expert/ Deputy Alana of Ilana Omo Oodua Worldwide, Professor Adeniran.

Akintoye described the release of Ighoho as a triumph of truth over darkness in Yoruba Land.

Igboho had escaped from his residence on July 1, 2021 when operatives of the Department of State Services, DSS, invaded his apartment in Ibadan.

He, thereafter, fled the country and was arrested in Benin Republic while on his way to Germany with his wife, Ropo, who was later released.

Igboho was arrested on 20 July, 2021 and has been in detention in Cotonou, Benin Republic since then.
