After about a year of speculation and anticipation, Apple released the iPhone 13 series.

In a virtual event on Tuesday, Apple announced that iPhone 13 will launch four models: iPhone 13, 13 Mini, 13 Pro and 13 Pro Max.

What are the changes in theiPhone 13 series?

Well, it looks a lot like the iPhone 12, but with two major updates to the phone’s display and camera. The phone will also run the latest version of Apple’s iOS 15 operating system. They are also equipped with larger batteries, more memory (maximum 1 TB of memory), A15 bionic processor, smaller notches and camera features.

How much does cost?

The iPhone 13 128GB starts at $829, which is twice the initial storage space of the iPhone 12; and the 128GB storage space of the iPhone 13 Mini starts at $729. The 128GB storage space of the iPhone 13 Pro and 13 Pro Max starts at US$999 and US$1,099, respectively.

Why is the iPhone 13 series more expensive in African countries?

Over the years, there have been significant differences in the prices of Apple products in African countries. Therefore, TechCabal contacted iPhone dealers in various countries in Africa to find out when the iPhone 13 will be available and what the price is.

“Of course, since the iPhone will be available on September 24, it will be available in Nigeria on or before October 1.” Bodds IT CEO and Apple Certified Technician Emmanuel Osho told TechCabal. “The price will be about 30% higher because it is and there is a lot of hype.”
Despite the increase in iPhone profits, Osho expects the iPhone to be sold out soon. One of the positive effects of people buying the iPhone 13 is that they mainly trade with the old iPhone to make room for others to buy them at a cheaper price

South Africa

According to Apple’s premium reseller iStoreZA, the iPhone 13 will be available in South Africa on October 8. Although the store has not announced the price, the retail price of the iPhone 13 Pro 128GB is expected to be approximately 23,499 yuan ($1,640), while the retail price of the iPhone 13 Pro Max 128GB is expected to be approximately 25,999 yuan ($1,815). This is a high price range of more than 50% and may be affected by the fact that South Africa’s iPhone or iPod needs to pay 7% tariffs and 15% value-added tax for each Business Insider.

You can expect iPhone prices from other retailers to be roughly the same as most Apple products sold in South Africa through the exclusive distributor Core Computer Group.

Kenya

In Kenya, TechCabal talked with Salute iWorld, an Apple authorized product distributor in the Yaya Center in Nairobi.

A representative of the retailer told us that the iPhone 13 is expected to be available in the next two weeks.
Although he does not know how much it will cost, he did mention that Apple products generally have a 16% import fee, plus a 6% sales tax. In addition to transportation costs and increased profit margins that retailers set final prices for the public.

The iPhone 13 seems to offer more than its predecessor. But not so much that it forced many people to upgrade. In the context of Africa, the question arises whether it is worth paying at least 30%-50% extra for a small upgrade to get a iPhone 13 in Nigeria, Kenya or South Africa.
