Another innocent man has been killed following the bad posture of a security personnel in Zamfara State.
At Gusau, in Zamfara State’s capital, a fruit vendor called Abdulkadir Musa was shot dead by a soldier.
According to reports gathered from the deceased’s father, Alhaji Mustafa, two soldiers approached his son’s fruit stand on Sunday to buy a bunch of bananas.
He stated that they soldiers wanted to carry along with another bunch of bananas for free after paying for the one they had already taken. This led to the fracas.
“They bought a bunch of bananas for N300 and instead of them to take the one they paid for, they also took another one and wanted to go with it, but my son did not allow them to do so.
“When they insisted that they must go with the bunch of bananas, the fruit vendor rushed to the police station, which was very close to the scene of the incident, and reported the case and the two soldiers were arrested, but they were released shortly after.”
According to Mustafa, the soldiers who were arrested were shortly released and one visited his home, brought out a gun and went to shot his son at the scene.
“My son was shot in the back and we took him to the Yariman Bakura Specialist Hospital, but unfortunately, he lost his life,” Mustafa said.
The father said that he is waiting earnestly for legal action to be taken against the soldier who took his son’s life after reporting the incident to the Human Rights Commission.
“I have reported the case to the concerned authorities and I will not rest until the soldier is punished to serve as a deterrent to others,”
Confirming the issue, the state’s Police Public Relations Officer, SP Mohammed Shehu, told Punch Metro that the command was investigating the incident.
“We are investigating the issue,” Shehu said.
