Federal Judge Tosses Trump’s Request to Delay E. Jean Carroll Defamation Case

After he refuted author E. Jean Carroll’s claims that he raped her, former President Donald Trump asked a federal judge in Manhattan to delay a civil defamation lawsuit.

Carroll stated in a book published in 2019 that she was raped by Trump in a New York department store dressing room in the middle of the 1990s. Carroll has filed a federal defamation lawsuit against the former president in New York after Trump has repeatedly denied the allegations.

Due to the media’s attention to a separate criminal case against Trump brought by Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg, Trump’s legal team had sought to postpone the trial by a month in response to Carroll’s defamation allegations.

Regarding E. Jean Carroll’s “story,” in which she asserts that she once met me at Bergdorf Goodman 23 years ago. This person has never existed in my life. Her motivation should be obvious given that she is attempting to sell a new book. Shame on those who fabricate assault stories in an effort to gain publicity, sell a book, or advance a political cause—such as Julie Swetnick, who fabricated accusations against Justice Brett Kavanaugh.

The Defamation Case of Carroll

The emphasis of the trial will be on whether Trump defamed the author when he dismissed Carroll’s rape claims rather than directly addressing her charges.

According to Carroll’s defamation lawsuit (pdf), Trump accused her of lying about the rape to boost sales of her own book.

Trump made the following remarks in a statement on June 21, 2019:

If anyone has information that the Democratic Party is collaborating with Ms. Carroll or New York Magazine, please let us know as soon as possible. The world ought to be aware of the truth. It is shameful, and those who make such false accusations should pay dearly.

Trump wrote, “I don’t know this woman, have no idea who she is, other than it seems she got a picture of me many years ago, with her husband, shaking my hand on a reception line at a celebrity charity event,” in a post on his Truth social media platform on October 12, 2022. She completely embellished her claim that I “swooned” her as soon as I entered this crowded New York City Department Store. It is a hoax and a fabrication.

By the time of press time, NTD News had not received a response from Trump’s attorneys regarding the matter.
